Properties are pairs of names and values. Similarly to tags they can be assigned to both documents and highlights. Properties are useful when you need to enforce a certain hierarchy in your classification and you need more flexibility than with tags.
Properties can be managed in a similar way as tags:
- you can create new properties
- you can rename exisiting propery names
- you can rename existing property values
- you can delete all instances of a property with all of its value
- you can delete all instances of a property value
Renaming values and names means that you can merge properties as well.
You might notice that the same propery value is listed more than once.
We separate property values assigned manually from the ones which are assigned by rules. The reason for that is that they cannot be edited in the same way: you can rename manually assigned properties, but automatic ones require updating the rule which assigns that property.
When importing properties via integrations (for example from Typeform or our own API) you can choose to rename them and automatically hide them. Imported properties will then stop being visible in search, reports and rules, but can still be searched for.
Properties automatically assigned by rules cannot be removed or renamed - if you want to make any changes to them, you'll have to edit the rule which assigns the property.
